Award-winning artist, Lou’ana, reveals soulful track 'day dreams (voodoo version)', along with dreamy visualiser

Aotearoa’s Kiwi Pacific artist Lou'ana has today returned with a brand new version of her track Day Dreams, showcasing it as the stunningly raw, bluesy single and visualiser day dreams (voodoo version).

Originally featured on her 2020 acclaimed debut album Moonlight Madness, today’s version explores the soulful roots of the song; taking it back to its origins and by extension, Lou’ana’s core as an artist deeply moved by blues music.

“It feels really special to be sharing this part of myself with my audience,” reflects Lou’ana. “I was brought up with blues music, so this song really speaks to my soul! It is also very raw and spacious, so it feels vulnerable. It also feels right to open up and share the healing I have been doing over the last few years, before we party and dance in my disco era!”

Recorded at K Drum Studios in Auckland, day dreams (voodoo version) is stacked with some of New Zealand’s best and sought-after musicians and engineers. Lou’ana herself is on guitar, with Jason Herbert (Sola Rosa) on lead guitar, Guy Harrison (Troy Kingi, Bailey Wiley) on organ, Chip Matthews (Anika Moa, Ladi6) on bass, Charlie Isdale on baritone, tenor, alto saxophone and clarinet, Finn Scholes on trumpet and tuba, and Tom Broome (Aaradhna) on drums. Broome also engineered and mixed the single, with Vivek Gabriel (Avantdale Bowling Club) on mastering.

Along with the single comes the gorgeous visualiser, made by Lou’ana. “On the autumn equinox, I got creative and made the cover art, while at the same time, decided to create a moving image visualiser to accompany the song.”

Lou'ana continues to solidify her status as a rising star in the music industry, with the Jazz trained vocalist’s 2020 debut album Moonlight Madness charting as a NZ top 20 Album and winning her Best Pacific Female Artist at the 2021 Pacific Music Awards. Since then, she has gone on to perform all across the country, including at Nostalgia Festival, Newtown Festival, NZ Spirit Festival, CubaDupa, Splore Festival, Nest Fest and more; last year opening for the chart breaking artist Teddy Swims. Most recently opening for Gladys Knight in Auckland. She sold out her album release show held at the reputable Q Theatre, and her infectious album track Move Along has just reached over 2 million streams on Spotify alone. In 2023, her dance anthem Night Creature hit #2 on the Hot 20 NZ Singles Chart, and was a rotating feature on ZM’s ‘Locals Only’ playlist.

Today’s release is the first of 2024 for Lou’ana, and with more to come, it serves as an exciting reminder to pay attention to this exceptionally talented local artist.
