Hype - Hype Newsletter Interview
11 Jul 2005 // An interview by Shade
Which NZ artist/band do you think will be a huge international success one day?
The Insurgents, Chris Young is an amazing songwriter and a hit machine. We know the band quite well and we made a pact: Whoever makes it big first has to take the other band along for the ride.
Who would you most like to tour with?
The Insurgents, embarking on a world tour with U2 opening for us.
What is your most embarrassing concert moment?
About 20 seconds into the first song, I was overdoing the enthusiasm and I kinda lost my balance into the drums.
What are you planning on doing during 2005?
This year we are planning on playing as many shows as possible and hopefully journey around the country for a small tour in Summer. Maybe release an EP or Album at the end of the year when we sign a deal.
How did you come up with the name Hype?
We were originally called the Drakes, but some pop-rock band in America already had the name, so we thought the Cinnamon Girls, but it sounded too much like the Mint Chicks, so we stole Hype from a grunge era subpop video tape with the same name.
What is in your CD collection at home?
Yes, I was hoping this one would come up. My Cd collection consists of Smashing Pumpkins, Marcy Playground, REM, Stone Temple Pilots, The White Stripes, The Vines, Queens Of The Stone Age, David Bowie, Crowded House to name a few...
What advice would you give other budding musicians/bands?
I've learned a few things since i've been rocking, the most important is stay true to yourself and don't let anyone change you. Don't do any drugs goes without saying. Oh and try and be as professional as possible.
