Say Yes To Life has been described as a highly anticipated new album from whanau band NRG Rising. This group is a mother and two daughters, and right from the outset the whanau bond is obvious as the three women harmonise very well, with the sort of effortless styles which only comes from a very close family unit.
Producer Israel Starr of Bless Up Music is the album’s executive
producer, giving Say Yes to Life a sassy Pacifica Reggae feel, with liberal
smatterings of Rhythm and Blues.
The album opens with the Che Fu tune Conscious Soul Rebelwhich is beautifully interpreted by NRG Rising, and Che adds some backing
vocals as well. It’s a smart way to open the LP.
Most of the tunes on Say Yes To Life are expertly penned
by the whanau, and although it’s not really a collaborative album as such, it
does feature some excellent guest performances, from Che Fu, Silvia MC, Lion
Rezz, and the album’s producer Israel Starr. It’s a solid collection of songs, expertly
curated and produced, with many subtle sonic aspects in the mix.
As their name suggests NRG Rising have the ethos of
motivating, encouraging and inspiring listeners to live life to their full
potential. Say Yes To Life is a celebration of life, living in your passion
and always rising even when you may fall.
NRG Rising represented Aotearoa as the headline
international artist at the ‘Gathering of Nations Pow Wow’ recently in the USA
followed by a South-Western tour of the states.
This trio is all about standing strong with positive energy
and passion, from a wahine toa philosophy, or kaupapa.
This is a gateway LP, although I’ve loved reggae since growing up in Turanganui-a-kiwa (Gisborne) in the 1970's, I totally believe NRG Rising’s Say Yes To Life can attract newcomers to the Reggae genre.

The debut album “From Darkness To Light” rings true to the two main themes, containing celebratory, upbeat melodies, heart-warming vibes and thought-provoking lyrics that are sure to become quick favourites.
