With Always Always Tablefox outline clear ambition from the first note. This song is absolutely as match-fit for a chart assault is it could possibly be. Always Always is guitar fuelled
and hook laden-trim, supple and muscular and there is not a single note or sound there without a good reason.
It's big music intended for a big audience in a big space, and as such it could be said that it might have had to trade off some lyrical and harmonic complexity to get this result.
The melody comes to the fore, then, with much focus on the delivery of Clinton Bell. Previous reviews have compared his sound to an interesting range of male singers but here one can hear a lot of the 80's-James Reyne, Iva Davies and Brian Canham for example. These are good comparisons- all of these gentlemen know how to phrase a melody in a ‘Big Chorus’, and Bell too, has a good awareness of how this is done.
Tablefox are aiming high with Always Always. The key musical elements, songwriting, performances, and production have been carefully considered and skillfully put together, and this is clearly a “song with a mission”.
After a massive last few years playing shows with the likes of James, The Charlatans, City Calm Down and The Feelers, Kiwi rock 4-piece Tablefox return with the lead single from their third album Battles.
Recorded by Scott Seabright Productions and mastered by Ryan Smith (AC/DC, Greta Van Fleet) at Sterling Sound. Burning Bridges was released on July 27, 2021, with the album Battles landing on July 30th. A stonking track that opens the new album and signifies everything about the last few years for the band.
