Feel-good grooves are part of Raw Collective’s DNA. The Wellington-based 10-piece have been sowing sunflower seeds of optimism and cheerfulness for many a year now and it seems the well of goodness never dries.
Good Things (All We Need) follows hot on the heels of Waiting For Sunrise and again features fellow capital asset Simloco.
I’ve always been a bit bemused about the 'raw' in collective as they are anything but. The song smashes it out of the park within the first twenty seconds with a steady pulse, stylish syncopated horns and an irresistible groove that flows effortlessly along to a rousing chorus of: "All we need is some good things in this life to make it worth it".
There’s a clever kind of call and response on the chorus with Pauly Lowe’s rich and persuasive vocal echoed and re-emphasised by the soulfulness of Moira Jones.
The song builds a good momentum – groovy, booming and chill – with some nifty guitar work, a stomping bass line and those ever-present funky brass licks.
It’s not even summer but Good Things (All We Need) is the sound of it.
Appearing on the scene with their first music video Coins (Memories) which won single of the year on Radioactive.fm and support from independent radio stations across the country, Raw Collective set themselves on a path to make inspiring original music and back it up with an energetic live show.
Since then, the crew have released their debut full album gaining critical acclaim, write ups and radio play around the world.
The last two years have seen the band hit the road with two NZ tours and a successful 5-show Australian tour in March 2019.
