October Sewn - Single Review: Too Close For Comfort

04 May 2023 // A review by Corinne Rutherford
October Sewn from Auckland is the stage name for singer/songwriter and producer Kristyan Kolarski. Born in Bulgaria and raised in New Zealand. Although relatively new to the music scene, he has previously released 5 tracks which received high praise. His latest track Too Close For Comfort is a synth laden pop song with a catchy beat.

After being nominated by The Crescendo Trust of Aotearoa to receive funding from Warner Music he has been taken from his bedroom to the studio, levelling up to create a clean accomplished sound which would not be out of place in mainstream media.

This is a funky track with smooth vocalisation, although synth features heavily on this track, it is not overpowering. Too Close For Comfort is more fresh and future focused, less OMD.

A synth pop track that is easy to listen to with a tight mix. October Sewn delivers a quality sound on this track which will appeal to a younger crowd.

Rating: ( 4 / 5 )

About October Sewn

October Sewn is the stage name for singer/ songwriter/ producer Kristiyan Kolarski. Born in Bulgaria and raised in New Zealand, October was surrounded by music from a family of musicians from the start of his life. After 6 years of lessons he’d sworn to never touch a piano again but it didn’t take long before he’d broken that promise and started producing a couple years later.

October's sound mixes elements from both film soundtracks and modern pop songs. With influences from The Weeknd, Frank Ocean and Joji to Hans Zimmer, October has created a unique sound to bridge the cinematic and the mainstream. The melancholic artist has released 5 songs available on all platforms with his most recent My Doubt receiving high praise from award winning artists and mentors Solomon Crook and Dave Atai.

After being contacted by Warner Music, October Sewn is now taking his sound from his bedroom and into the studio, hoping to take the quality and cinematic experience of his music to the next level. October is looking to open up the eyes of the listener to a new synth-heavy, dystopian world of his creation.
