Auckland Hip Hop group, Fast Crew, have turned the local Hip Hop scene on its head with their infectious singles 'Mr Radio' and 'I Got', and are now on the brink of scoring national and international acclaim with their debut album.
Hooked up with fledging independent label, Akrite, and distributed via the might of Universal Music, the Fast Crew have come a long way since they formed in 1999. Compadres and Hip Hop fans, they began making music for fun but soon realised they were destined for greater things. "Before we got the band together we were all good friends and we'd hang out together all the time," explains Jerome. "We all had a passion for music and as soon as we started writing songs it became apparent that we should take it more seriously."
Fast Crew began playing live around Auckland, and with te music they were listening to at the time - Notorious B.I.G, Tupac Shakur, Led Zeppelin, The Doors and The Ohio Players - informing their unique sound, they rapidly built a serious and loyal following in underground Hip Hop circles.
Inevitably, this success led to mainstream exposure. Fast Crew's debut single, 'Mr Radio', was released in 2002 and was soon on high rotate on radio and television, paving the way for its irresistible successor. 'I Got', released in May 2004, was a Top 5 smash hit for the group and reached Gold status within weeks. Already seasoned performers at events such as the Big Day Out and the Aotearoa Hip Hop Summit, the popularity of 'I Got' saw the Fast Crew receive rapturous ovations at recent support gis for international Hip Hop stars, Missy Elliott and Busta Rhymes.
Fast Crew's third single, 'It's The Incredible' came off their debut album 'Set The Record Straight'. The record is an eclectic release, featuring a mix of Hip Hop, Pop, Funk, Underground Styles, MC Boasts and even a ballad or two. "Both singles have been very pop-oriented," says Jerome, "but we've got a pretty vast and varied album. There's a lot of different styles on there, it's quite experimental, we're trying to do something new. And the way I make music and beats is unique to this country as far as Hip Hop goes, there aren't any samples, everything comes from a 'live instrument' basis rather than samples or loops. The main thing is that we are musicians and we love music, and we love writing songs - that 's what we'd like people to remember about us and respect us for."

Untouched by Human Hands Posted: Wed Mar 22, 2006 6:20 pm Hello! I was walking around the Valley here in Brisbane when I spotted a poster for the band "Fast Crew". I'd never heard of the band before, The poster really stood out because of its sheer lack of character. Someone has perfected the ultimate bland band poster, and they're trialling it with "Fast Crew" as guinea pigs. You can see a picture of it here: http://crappy-ads.blogspot.com/ The only relief is the "Fast Crew" logo, which is notable because it's the sort of thing you'd expect to see in a 1950's-themed American diner. It catches the eye not only because it's incongruous, but also because it is so very badly executed. I did a bit of Googling, and hit this site (http://www.muzic.net.nz/artists/885). As I say in my blog, the press kit seems to have been assembled by the same robots as the poster. The people handling the PR for this group are doing a first-rate job of making them look like featureless, mass-produced automatons. Is this intentional? I'll probably have no other contact with the band other than through the poster and the web site, and it would be a pity if I've somehow got the wrong idea. So, is there a secret that's been left unrevealed, or is the whole "Fast Crew" thing a marketing experiment to see how slick-yet-shoddy a product can get before people turn up their noses? Thanks for any help, richard |

Fast Crew new singer Posted: Tue Jan 31, 2006 4:13 pm Im really wondering why noone has mentioned the fact that Rebecca has left the fast crew? It should be blindingly obvious that the girl who is now performing her parts lately is definatly not her. She has nothing on rebecca Funny that the rest of the crew havnt seemed to have brought it up or intro'd her, thats a bit sad. Also anyone noticed that you cant buy the album? Thats because its been pulled because they ripped off the eagles and are possibly gonna be sued! Bet rebeccas happy she left when she did right? What a shame, haha! |

Fast Crew in Oz charts Posted: Sun May 29, 2005 6:30 pm Fast Crews debut single I Got has debuted at no.22 in Australia. They were the 2nd highest new entry and even sold more than Oasis' recent single. Also on the ARIA charts are P Money & Scribe with Stop The Music which is no.7 there, currently GOLD status with 35,000 singles sold, not bad at all. |

Fast Crew Hit Aussie Clubs Posted: Thu Apr 14, 2005 2:55 pm Thanks to Median Strip for the following: Warner Music unleash Fast Crew on Australian radio this week with the release of the Aucklanders' debut single I Got. Already a top five on the ARIA Club Chart, compiled from weekly club DJ reports, the song is hailed in this week's Music Network industry mag as "a hip hop party anthem with slick R&B basslines and grooves and a damn catchy hook." New Zealand hip hop has been on the rise across the Tasman in recent times, most notably Scribe who reached #21 on the ARIA Singles Chart with Not Many/Stand Up, and again more recently with P-Money when Stop The Music was the second most added single on Australian radio in the last week of March. |

Fast Crew numba one 4 eva Posted: Fri Mar 25, 2005 10:48 pm It's music everyday I listen to and I dream of being just like them. I rap every day and I am becoming a good fast rapper. I absoulutly love fast crew and when you guys came out it was like a new life had began after Scribe in the NZ music industry as radio began to pump in (I GOT'). I was at the CHCH Edgefest and you guys performed awsum infact the crowd extended way back to almost the coke stand. Unfortunatly I didn't manage to get a sounds sighning card so iam pretty gutted about that but I do hope to see you guys at the boost mobile tour at Pioneer stadium soon so iam looking forward to that . My goal in life if there eva was a big aim - it would to become much like you Fast Crew because in the end where would NZ be without the love from NZ music. Cheers yalll JASON |
