Callista is an emerging band that has taken the Auckland underground scene by surprise. Not merely by the consistently high calibre of their material, which showcases their genre-defying style, but by their explosive energetic stage presence. Callista do not claim to be the most original, but aim to be the best at what they do. Collaborating a range of different styles, from fierce breakdowns to memorable choruses. Song compositions are technical and well thought out, with strong vocals to top off their sound. All though the band do not take themselves too seriously, they do bring forth thought-provoking lyrics straying from the clichéd emo dribble.
Callista was formed late in 2005. Combining everyone's individual influences of hardcore, metalcore, screamo and punk, they found a common goal in creating music that is fun, heavy, technical, emotive and energetic. After a month and a half together, they recorded the first two songs they wrote, 'A Light Unto My Feet' and 'Overconfidence Would Be An Understatement'. They have continued pushing their creativity. Their new unheard songs are blurring the lines of where catchy melodies and technical breakdowns meet.
Callista is planning on doing some more recording soon, so keep your ear to the ground.
