Solo artist ARIA has fostered her talent for singing, dancing and performing since a young age. A driven and unique artist, ARIA has honed her super powers by adapting and diversifying, whether it was singing for NZ Opera, writing and recording the Auckland anthem Friday, in the shack with Home Brew, belting top Cs in the Festival Garden for Dr Colossus, crooning BVs for TEEKS on RNZ or laying down Mahogany Session vocals in London for Noah Slee, ARIA has lapped it all up, slowly harvesting her rich experiences to build her own juicy, tapestry.
After some time living in Berlin, ARIA is excited to be settled back home and channelling the eclectic, artistic influences she has gathered into a personal and vulnerable body of work. A collaborative musician at heart, ARIA is working alongside local producers including Abraham Kunin (TEEKS, Home Brew) Boycrush and Haz Beats (Miloux, Home Brew, Team Dynamite).
The debut single release from ARIA, Awake With You was a high energy, pop-soul collaboration with renowned electronic producer and NZ Music Awards nominee, Alistair Deverick (Boycrush), whose illustrious drumming career (Lawrence Arabia, Ruby Suns) is evidenced in the tune’s drum lines. Acclaimed actress Morgana O’Reilly (Housebound, Mean Mums, Silo Theatre), also a fearless creator (Edinburgh and New York Fringe Festivals), has directed and produced a raw and powerfully defenseless, filmic capture of the story behind the song which you can watch here.
In contrast to her digestible, synth-pop debut, the second single from ARIA, Unravel takes an alternative turn. The ethereal and melancholic vocals weave a soulful melody, soaring above a swell of strings, deep bass and grimy snare. Retrieved from her vault of songs composed while living in Berlin, ARIA worked alongside producer Abraham Kunin, back here in NZ, to bring it to life. Teaming up with Morgana O’Reilly again, the music video for Unravel, which was skillfully shot during Lockdown 2.0, under Level 2.5, is an ode to vulnerability. ARIA shows her flair for inhabiting the story behind the song, integrating six different characters as a powerful plea for connection and trust.
Last year ARIA took the stage with a full, six-piece band to perform for a packed, yet intimate audience at a local musicians’ haunt, The Ponsonby Social Club. After a year of releasing during intermittent Lockdowns, ARIA, an experienced performer, shone with glee as she shared her original music with the dedicated and animated crowd.
ARIA has just recently completed production of her debut EP, Love Songs Till Midnight. The EP includes soulful, 90's inspired, R&B as well as some more experimental electronic bops. Spanning the topics of the heart, the EP is about love gained and love lost. ARIA and her collaborators have relished in the world of neo-soul and dance while still bringing the spice that is expected from such Aotearoa talent. The EP is set for release 22 April, 2022.
