Band & Musician News - The Slacks unleash 'Big Aroha', announce North Island shows

The Slacks unleash 'Big Aroha', announce North Island shows

24 November 2016 - 0 Comments

Taranaki four piece theSlacks are stoked to be sharing their brand new single Big Aroha with Aotearoa.

Big Aroha germinated in Marky Armstrong’s school years after a poignant discussion with his mate Joe at the bus stop outside the Inglewood dairy, about the importance of community and manaakitanga - a conversation that stayed with him over the years and finally coalesced into a song.

Peppered with Te Reo and celebrating strong community ties and deep roots, Big Aroha is a nod to Poi E and a modern Taranaki response to our times.

The accompanying video was shot by the band with the help of Green Cow Productionsand editor Dave Lepper. It predominantly takes place in a local Four Square and is a vibrant, upbeat production full of aroha and inclusiveness, perfectly mirroring the sentiments of the song.

In early December, theSlacks are embarking on a North Island tour to promote the Big Aroha single and video release.  The mini-tour criss-crosses the island from Auckland to Wellington and Taranaki across to Gizzy - a pagan genuflection of NZ rock.

Bringing a fresh, new batch of songs, theSlacks will also be revisiting their classic album Suppressed Inventions and last year’s album release, Welcome To The Rolling Vibe for a full-bodied show with serious legs.

Big Aroha is now available for purchase on Bandcamp, iTunes and all good DSPs. Listen to 'Big Aroha' on Spotify.

"Shades of FizzPop and curtains of Country-Ska colour the sound of theSlacks which is veritably infested with their poignant social commentary and unselfish desire to entertain - enough and plenty more to keep even the most searching minds in station and the swinging-est hips in motion.” - TSB Festival of Lights, 2015.
