New Ending - New Ending Newsletter Interview

30 May 2005 // An interview by Shade
Which NZ artist/band do you think will be a huge international success one day?
The Bleeders, they're great guys and they've been working hard - they deserve it.

Who would you most like to tour with?
New Zealand - The Bleeders. International - anyone whose cool but obviously someone along the same lines as our own sound, Thrice, Finch, Hot Water Music, the list could go on and on...

What is your most embarrassing concert moment?
Noise control shutting down a show we had set up, halfway through the line-up. Blowing up PA's, slipping and nearly arsing over on stage.

What are you planning on doing during 2005?
We are planning on getting out and about more, we admit we've been a little slack. We are also planning a trip across to Australia for a couple of shows. On top of that we would like to get some quality recording done, we're sick of demo-ing stuff. Mainly just continue rocking out though.

How did you come up with the name New Ending?
The names come from a play on the new beginning thing. A couple of us had just finished up with an old band - we thought "lets make this a new ending not a new beginning", we'd like to finish this thing off properly...hopefully years from now.

What is in your CD collection at home?
Mainly a collection of punk, screamo and hardcore bands. My favourite band would have to be Thrice at the moment, their new dvd really gives you some hope of getting out on the road and making it.

What advice would you give other budding musicians/bands?
Practise, the more you feel comfortable playing your own music on stage the more fun you have, and just rock out, people get into it more if you're having fun on stage. Mainly though, just do it for yourself, there's far too many critical voices out there who are always willing to put you down.

About New Ending

Auckland four piece New Ending have been leaving crowds stunned. They come straight at you with an intense, loud, screaming guitar sound, drums not too dis-similar to a small bore sized drill coming through your skull, and melodic lyrics topped up with screams of angst revealing deepest emotion.

New Ending songs vary, from those about the lost love of youth and the loss of important souls to those of outright fear, anger and lust. Their music evolved from an initial punk/emo sound to form an intense screamo blend of punk and hardcore.

Formed in early 2002, they have regularly played shows in the Auckland area to a growing fan base, and have toured the North Island of New Zealand, steadily building a following in cities such as Wellington and Tauranga. The band can be regularly found gracing the stage at venues such as the Kings Arms, Masonic Tavern, Galatos and various all age venues in Auckland, along with other influencial NZ bands such as The Bleeders, The Mint Chicks, Cold by Winter, Missing Teeth, Goodnight Nurse, 48May and Losing Face.
