Louie Knuxx - Louie Knuxx Newsletter Interview

22 May 2006 // An interview by Shade
Who are your favourite NZ bands and artists?

Breaknwreck of course, Pluto, I'm checking for Capone they're gonna be dope, cats like Mareko, Frontline, PNC, Money etc, RES are my fav local hip-hop act.

What is your favourite NZ venue?

I really like the Kings Arms and of late Rising Sun

What is the best live gig you have ever been to?

A pick between a few, RZA and Dizzee Rascal at St James were both nuts, and Blackalicious at Galatos really opened up my eyes to the level of showmanship some overseas artists maintain compared to what we get here

Where do you see yourself in 5 years?

Running my own buisness hopefully but my main goal is happiness, if I continue achieving that the other details don't matter as much

How do you keep in contact with your fans?

Didn't know I had any, I got a myspace page though that people can hit me up on

What rumour would you like to start about yourself?

That I died to up my sales

What advice would you like to give to other aspiring musicians?

If you're sitting there tryna write a song that somebody else would like or for mass consumption quit! Theres enough carbon copy paint by numbers bullshit out there already

About Louie Knuxx

Delinquent MC Louie Knuxx, an admired member of the NZ Hip-Hop underground is originally from New Plymouth. He spent time on the grind in old school crew Dirtbag District (with crewmate Ethical) and joined Cyphanetik and Tourettes in the Insomniacs when he moved up to Auckland.

Now Louie is stepping out on his own and he has gathered an army of the undergrounds best for his debut album Wasted Youth to be released on the independent BWW label. Louie has added to the already smoldering line up of MC’s from his own camp (Cyphanetik, Tourettes, Usual Suspects) with guest appearances from Con Psy, PNC, Dirt City’s Fact & Nesh and RnB singer Maia.

An intense experience revealing the insightful Louie Knuxx, Wasted Youth traces his childhood and youth, an autobiographic account of violence & drugs, rap dramas & superstars, love & family. The outspokenness and satire we’ve come to expect from him is extended to serious issues too, but it is the languid teasers (with the rogue eloquence that is distinctly him) that are likely to impress the most.
