19 Jun 2006 // An interview by Shade
Who are your favourite NZ bands and artists?
Pluto, HDU, Anika Moa, Goldenhorse, Bic Runga, Jakob, Steve Abel, Shihad, The Chills and the Verlaines
What is your favourite NZ venue?
The Kings Arms in AK, St. James Theatre, (there have been some amazing shows there). The Cricketers Arms, Electric Ballroom, and the Clyde Quay Tavern in Wellington (all sadly deceased)
What is the best thing about being in Aerial?
Being able to produce our music as we intend it to be. Seeing something as personal as my songs come to fruition which may not have happenend otherwise. Having the chance to work and collaborate with some great musicians, and being able to create something to be shared with our friends.
What is the best live gig you have ever been to?
Interpol was pretty great earlier this year, D4 at Tanuki's Cave, the best rock 'n' roll show ever performed in a Japanese restaurant. Sigur Ros in April was stunning. Shihad at True Colours, 2003. Coldplay at Galatos. I also enjoyed Sweetwaters a few years back, does that count??
Where do you see yourselves in 5 years?
That's too far away for me to even contemplate.. still singing, still writing...probably re-working the songs on 'The Space Between'!!
How do you keep in contact with your fans?
Via the website www.aerialmusic.co.nz
What rumour would you like to start about yourselves?
Performing live soon, at a venue near you!!
What advice would you like to give to other aspiring musicians?
There is no such thing as a bad idea, just better ones. Art is never finished it's only ever abandoned.
About Aerial
Aerial’s music takes you on an emotional journey, passing through haunting, melancholic moments and stunning ethereal melodies.
Aerial began as friends recording song ideas in a studio, but quickly realised they had something special that needed to be taken further.
The experience has led to the production of a gorgeous collection of songs on Aerial’s debut album, ‘The Space Between’, released on Shock Records in June 2006.
