Katchafire - Katchafire- San Francisco Bathhouse Wellington 23rd Dec 2006
05 Jan 2007 // An interview by johnsoncraigsbc
Although I ended up driving into town by myself, this particular night turned out to be rather enjoyable. The San Francisco Bathhouse is a great venue, housing numerous bands of all genres. After feeling slightly ill from all the fresh air I went outside for a cup of tea. On the balcony I talked to cousins and family of Katchafire, which was nice because they were all really cool, relaxed people.
The one thing I particularly noticed about this gig was the attitude of the people attending. Everyone, from the people at the door to the balcony smokers, were really laid back and just wanted to have a good time. There was an encouraging, positive vibe which, I think, really added to the performance of the band. All were dancing and just having fun, as were the band.
I had never heard Katchafire play live before, and I only recognised a few of their more popular songs, but that aside I thoroughly enjoyed the performance from start to end. Each individual had an obvious grasp of their instrumental performance and together made some really beautiful roots style music.
Some crowd interaction was eagerly welcomed as the audience began to dance more and more. It really was one of those gigs where you are fully entertained from start to finish and the set gets better as the night goes on.
Katchafire made my Saturday super fun, and I wouldn’t miss another opportunity to get together with some very cool people.
