Eqwanox - Eqwanox Newsletter Interview

18 Apr 2010 // An interview by Shade

Thanks to Nick for answering these questions:
(Questions were answered in April 2010)

What can we expect to see from Eqwanox over the next year?

Our debut album 'All Roads Lead From Here' came out April 5 nationwide and we then supported Dragon in Hamilton on their recent NZ tour. We are about to embark on our own tour covering as many towns as we can in the North Island and all going well with album sales we will get down to the South Island for a few shows. We will spend all of 2010 promoting the album and look forward to playing some great shows over summer.

Who are your favourite NZ musicians/bands, and why?

Shihad because they just keep on keeping on and keep producing hit after hit (and F%c$*ng rule live!), Black River Drive's single is pretty epic, going to have to hit those guys up for a show or something!

How do you believe Eqwanox fits into the NZ music industry?

That’s a question I often think about. I see us as outsiders/underdogs and I guess that gives us a nothing to lose attitude

How do you describe Eqwanox's music?

We see our music as Rock with elements of Punk, Grunge and Pop Rock. Everyone has their own opinion though. We have been likened to Rise Against, NOFX, The Offspring etc. With our album being recorded over 2 years ago we have written a lot of new songs and have been playing a lot of them at shows so we are already looking forward to album number 2.

What is your favourite NZ venue?

This theatre in New Plymouth which I think is called the TSB Theatre? We played there a couple of years ago and I always remember it being a great venue – St James Theatre was always great in Auckland. My favourite venue to watch shows at is The Civic in Auckland, I love the whole outdoor feel when the lights go down.

What inspired you to become a start Eqwanox?

Our love for rock music and being in a small town where being in a band was something different. It took us a while to work out what we wanted to play and what we wanted to do with it but we have stuck at it and are still enjoying it as much as we ever had.

What is the best gig you have ever performed at, and why?

Supporting Seether was a dream come true and an amazing day overall, it was crazy to be playing an arena show so that is one I will always remember. Masterton Town Hall in 2009 was a pretty insane crowd and easily the best show of the last year so far.

How do you keep in contact with your fans?

Facebook is the main tool we use at the moment, MySpace has turned from a place to keep in in touch with people to more of an online press kit to link people to when you are selling the band to someone etc.
