Eva Prowse - Eva Prowse Newsletter Interview

08 Oct 2010 // An interview by Shade

Eva Prowse is a striking new-folk-pop singer songwriter who has rewritten the rules of country-folk to create a fusion of genres which undeniably proves her talent as one of New Zealand’s emerging female vocalists. She answered the following questions for muzic.net.nz:

What advice would you like to give to other aspiring musicians?

Soak up as much as you can from other musicians, and play as much as you can with other musicians… also pick an instrument you can carry easily or fit in a backpack, I envy harmonica players…

What can you never leave home without?

Excusing myself to the ladies first, you never know when you’ll next get the chance.

What is in your CD collection at home?

At the mo, been listening to Tessa Rain’s new album Dirt Poems, which is awesome (go Tess!), and Edith Piaf, still waiting for N.E.R.D’s new album Nothing to be released, so it’s Dr Dre 2001 in the mornings.

What is your most embarrassing on tour/gig moment?

Oh man  there are loads - that usually involve me obviously not really knowing what I’m up to or how stuff works. But still can’t get over 3rd form musicals when, as Maria from the Sound of Music, I got changed out of my nun costume too early… hanging out in the Abbey chatting to Reverend Mother with my mufti clothes on. Get it right Prowse.

What is the best gig you have ever performed at, and why?

Not so much a ‘gig’ but the best place I’ve ever got to sing was the Ancient Greek Amphitheatre in Epidaurus (google image it!). I was there on a field trip with a bunch of other Classics geeks from uni, and I got to test the wicked acoustics by singing in the middle of the stage, I was chuffed as… The Japanese tourists way up the top loved it too...

What rumour would you like to start about yourself?

That I write all 50 Cent’s tweets for him.
