Turbostill - Turbostill Newsletter Interview

16 Oct 2010 // An interview by Shade

Turbostill are a dirty rock 'n' roll band from the ever-prolific Palmerston North scene. Formed in late 2000, the band have been playing locally constantly since. With a sound they describe as "sometimes hard-out mayhem, sometimes an easy groove for those who like to rock".

What can we expect to see from Turbostill over the next year?

We will play more gigs, and are recording an ep to be released in 2011.

We're playing El Santo in Lyttleton on Sat 23 Oct, The Royal in Palmy for the '30 Years of Control' comp release on Fri 19 Nov and also headed up to Rotorua on Sat 4 Dec at After Dark.

Who would you most like to support live?

AC/DC.

How do you believe Turbostill fits into the NZ music industry?

Like a square peg in a round hole.

How do you describe Turbostill’s music?

Dirty alcohol fueled rock n' roll.

What is your favourite NZ venue?

Mai Farm in Pohangina.

What is the best part of being a musician?

The drinking, and playing gigs is quite good to.

What is in your CD collection at home?

Slayer, Entombed, The Hellacopters and AC/DC.

What is your most embarrassing on tour/gig moment?

Playing sober, someone has to drive...

What inspired you to  start Turbostill?

Drinking.

How did you come up with the name Turbostill?

Combining turbo and distilling, trying to get drunk quick.

What is the best gig you have ever performed at, and why?

All shows at Mai Farm, The Primitive rock n' roll fest out there was cool, and so have all the other shows we have played by a fire down by the river in the valley.

What rumour would you like to start about Turbostill?

We don't drink.
