About Ash Grey

Ash Grey didn’t choose music, it chose him, and lucky for us it did. With a growing collection of songs this young singer song writer is set for great things. Ash’s music has a rock folk edge to it that includes intricate part variation, dynamic vocal range and the ability to take the listener on a story that is told with both strength and sensitivity.

His songs show a maturity that is quite beyond his 17 years. Tracks like Boy in the Box and Blue Fades to Black have a Coldplay like specialness about them, and the single that won him 3rd place in the Play it Strange Song Writing Competition has a hook that keeps you wanting to come back for more. His new EP features a beautiful mix of tracks that showcase just what he is capable of! He is also an accomplished musician playing guitar, keyboards and piano on the tracks he has recorded.

Ash’s accomplishments are impressive: Third in the Play it Strange Song Writing Competition in 2010; selection for involvement in the Drift Sessions which saw him co-write with Ryan Edwards the Mental Health Awareness Week track Drifting Tonight; first in the Coastlands Star Search competition; in 2011 he has had a track selected for their Anthem in Black CD that has been made for the 2012 Olympic Games; and very recently he and his band have been selected to support Shihad at their When I Grow Up show; second place in the University of Auckland Songwriter of the Year 2011: Schools Competition; winner of You Play You Win; 3rd in the Wellington finals for SFRQ.
