The Nudge - The Nudge Newsletter Interview

21 Aug 2011 // An interview by Shade

Thanks to Ryan Prebble for answering these questions:

What advice would you like to give to other aspiring musicians?

Play what you are into, if you are into it, audiences will be into it, don't try and control it too much, it's music... let it be.

Who are your favourite NZ musicians/bands, and why?

Bands who are exploring sounds, tones and grooves.... Orchestra of Spheres, Spartacus R, The Phoenix Foundation, Connan Mockasin.

Who would you most like to support live?

Erykah Badu.

How do you believe The Nudge fits into the NZ music industry?

We try and make a little cash out of playing music.

What can you never leave home without?

At the moment....swanie.

How do you describe The Nudge's music?

Groovy, bluesy, exploratory, just music.

What is your favourite NZ venue?

The recently destroyed El Santo in Lyttleton.

What is in your CD collection at home?

Can, Bjork, Radiohead, John Fahey, Space Farm.

What is your most embarrassing on tour/gig moment?

Spoon?

What is your favourite place in NZ to be?

The extremities... Catlins, Northland... and home.

What inspired you to start The Nudge?

The desire to become totally scott free... it's sort of working.

How did you come up with the name The Nudge?

Deep meditation.

How do you keep in contact with your fans?

Mostly through Facebook, the occasional dabble on Twitter and sometimes MySpace, as well as general conversation face to face in the flesh.

About The Nudge

The Nudge are a fresh form of innovative blues.

As a trio, they are all individually inspired by multi genres of music that help to form a complex sound often termed as psychedelic swampy blues with an element of party. The songs have been loosely based around singer Ryan Prebble's style of writing, but as a band they interweave their ideas to create a thick organic sound with unique forms due to their very different musical backgrounds. One thing that is however certain, this is music for the soul and the feet!
