How long has Osmium been together?
The first formation of Osmium was in 2005, as the band we are now I think 2009.
How did you come up with the name Osmium?
Saw it in a guitar magazine, Osmium is the heaviest metal known to man. Thats basically our mission to write the heaviest shit we can while having clean vocals and as much groove as possible.
How would you describe your music to people who have never heard you before?
Heavy, groovy riffs with clean vocals.
Who are your biggest musical influences?
Jerry Cantrell/Alice In Chains, Metallica, Pantera & Black Sabbath.
What is your favourite gig you have played so far?
Probably just about every Auckland show we've ever played except one.
It's always a blast to be so far from home but have such a good show.
If you could play with any band in the world who would it be?
Alice In Chains.
If you could play any venue in the world where would it be?
Pass, any venue is fine with me!
How did you find the experience of playing at Beyond The Black?
It was great! We had a good time, saw a lot of familiar faces and made some new friends aswell as getting to see 18 other bands most of which we have never seen before.
What are we going to see from Osmium in 2013?
On Thursday 17th of January we're embarking on our 4th NZ tour, The Wolf At Your Throat 2013 NZ tour which takes us from Invercargill to Auckland and everywhere in between then in March we will be supporting Sinate at all their South Island shows.
What is the best part about being a musician?
Playing music.
What's in your personal music collection?
So much shit, Black Sabbath to Morphine and everywhere in between.
Who is your favourite NZ band and why?
Left Or Right because they're amazing and I can watch them live 100 times and not get sick of it. Untainted by the music industry.
Name an up and coming NZ band you think people should check out?
Heterodox
http://www.facebook.com/HeterodoxNZ?fref=ts
What's the funniest thing you have seen at a gig/on tour?
Probably at our first Timaru show, We were meant to play with Sinate but they had to pull out cause their vocalist was admitted to hospital but they came down to the show anyway and we played on our own. After the show this lovely young lady comes in who hadn't even been there to see the bands play. Next minute The Colonel is signing her breasts.
Actually their are a few tales about the Colonel that would fit here.
What's your most embaressing gig/tour moment?
Haha, Nothing serious really...probably the worst was a recent show when our bass player Doug did an accidental stage dive.
What advice would you give to other aspiring musicians?
Play & write music you enjoy. Don't worry about getting a record contract or none of that bullshit. If you're not doing it cause you love it, Stop.
Where is your favourite place in NZ to be?
To be, or to play?
Probably Dunedin for both.
When not playing music, what else do you do in your spare time?
Get out and about in the outdoors, I don't really have that much spare time between work and play.
When is your next release/ what will it be?
Probably not untill next year. 3rd album.
How do you keep in contact with your fans?
Facebook mainly.
If you could create a rumour about Osmium what would it be?
That we were raised by wolves.
Formed in 2005 through a mutual love of classic metal and heavy grooves Osmium have been putting on high energy performances all over NZ since their inception.
Proving their diversity Osmium have shared the stage with such NZ heavyweights as Shihad, Sinate, 8 Foot Sativa, The Heavy Metal Ninjas, New Way Home and much, much more.
