If the thought of a chilly winter sends a shudder of excitement down your spine – it’s time to dig out the board, dust it off and hit some of New Zealand’s beautiful snow-capped mountains.
On the slopes, be sure to keep your eyes peeled for the Corona Airstream, as you’ll be stoked to hear Corona is bringing it back – this time for a winter tour, like no other.
Hitting the mountains for the first time ever, Corona is taking its beautifully restored 1963 Airstream trailer (which made its debut appearance last summer) to popular snow destinations on both the North and South Island, this August.
Corona will be carving out the slopes quite literally, creating a customised Snow Bar and stage on three popular skifields, with free music performances from local Wanaka act Arma Del Amor. Each snow bar will have a purpose built snow stage and bar to host the event, with tunes from midday. When you're done up the mountain, you can head down to one of the free, one-off performances by Kiwi musicians, including: Sola Rosa Sound System, The Peacekeepers (P Digsss & Sambora from Shapeshifter) and Dan Aux - at some of the best ski and snowboard locations New Zealand has to offer .
We had a chance to catch up with PDigsss from The Peacekeepers who will be performing at Prime, Queenstown on August 9th as a part of the Corona Airstream Winter Tour. Here's what they had to say.
So, tell us about The Peacekeepers?
The Peacekeepers consist of PDigsss, Sambora and Nick Research. We play mainly as a 2 piece but when the planets are aligned we are a 3 headed monster. We formed out of a need to play and experiment with more diverse sounds than we were playing with Shapeshifter.
What would you say would be your signature style?
We play Bass heavy music of all description, we're not to fussed on genre if it's phat and good it will be played mixed and blended in with Peacekeeper style and fashion.
Describe each other in three words?
We're music geeks!
So, the Corona Winter tour, what does this have in store for you? Are you both boarders?
Currently as I write this we are in Europe it's 30 degrees and we love it but we've been away for quite awhile now so the Corona winter bash will be bringing us right back into our element, Winter.
Both Sambora and I snowboard, we hope to get a few days in up the hill in Queenstown while we're down can't beat riding with friends.
You two must travel a lot together. What are four items you can't leave home without?
We travel a lot and over the years have got it pretty dialed now, things of need vary but I always bring a multi power box so I can charge all my nz gadgets at the same time. I usually bring packets of vocalzones as i sing and Sam always brings good coffee.
What does your rider consist of?
Our rider is usually half a doz Redbulls good beers good vodka nice bottle of wine and some single malt Islay.
Where's your favourite place in New Zealand to play?
We don't really have a favorite place to play in nz, it's pretty much where ever we have people who are up to listening to what we have to play, then it's party on.
What's on the cards for you guys for the rest of the year?
We will hopefully get the chance to get into the studio and write some new music with the Peacekeepers time permitting of course, but other than that we'll be jammin at clubs and parties to suffice.
You can catch these guys on the Corona Airstream Winter Tour, Saturday August 9th, 10pm-late at Prime Queenstown.
