ElevenFiftySeven Records

A quick update on what’s going on here at ElevenFiftySeven Records and what related artists have done, plan to do and what they are doing now.

2008 saw new releases from Antagonist A.D, Cobra Khan & Los Muertos which saw all 3 acts hitting the road in support of each release.

Antagonist A.D took their blend of metallic hardcore to the world over 2008/2009 with not less than half a dozen trips across the ditch playing alongside such Australian heavyweights as Parkway Drive, Carpathian and US icons Earth Crisis plus venturing out on their very own headlining tour. Did it end there? No! Next was South East Asia which saw Antagonist A.D playing shows in such countries as Malaysia, Indonesia, the Phillipines, Singapore and Japan before returning home via Australia once again.

Right now Antagonist A.D is working on new material before they return back to Australia in October as part of the Sike Your Mind tour.

Antagonist A.D is
Sam (vocals), Kris (guitar), Ross (guitar), Josh (bass) and Israel (drums).

Antagonist A.D will be supporting Winds Of Plague (USA) with Akaname on 1 November 2009 @ Transmission Room, Auckland.

Cobra Khan unleashed the debut long player 'Helgorithms' which saw the band side step genre expectations and deliver an album that surprised even themselves. Diverse & Dynamic 'Helgorithms' is a full and deceptively complex debut full-length. Over 2008/2009 Cobra Khan toured nationally, played the 2009 big day out supported international artists as the Bronx & Rise Against.

Cobra Khan has just released a very limited edition vinyl 7inch featuring the singles Liquid Separation + Shutter. Currently Cobra Khan is touring the North Island. Future plans include another 7inch vinyl release along with a digital E.P in the coming months.

Cobra Khan is Milon Williams (vocals, guitar), Ben Lee (guitar, vocals), Evan Short (bass)
Sarah Fox (keyboard) and Andy Morton (drums).

Los Muertos, the newest addition to the ElevenfiftySeven roster, released their self titled debut album in April 08, have toured locally and supported various internationals such as Thrice & Strung Out.

Having recently managed to break in their new bass player, Leon Hall (ex-Cold By Winter), Los Muertos have their collective shoulder to  the grind stone as their riff machines churn out fresh material for their yet to be titled sophomore album. The rigors of pre-production have already commenced in an attempt to make sure that everything is set to 11 come Early 2010 when they enter the studio once again with engineer Zoran Mendonsa at the helm to track the yet to be titled album.

The late spring and early summer months will see Los Muertos take a break from their pre-production schedule to hit the stage around the upper north island. Expect to hear a handful of new tracks as they get road tested.

The blood, sweat and beers will continue to flow well after the post production is completed with a planned release date around early to mid fall 2010 and an album release tour to follow.

Los Muertos is Leon Parkin (vocals), Beni Shanks (guitar, vocals), Leon Hall (bass, vocals), Peter Garmaz (guitar, vocals) and Rob O'Connor (drums).

On the cusp of their 15th year, Kitsch is embarking on yet another journey through the sonic landscape of Pop Rock.

With an album project on the not to distant horizon, Kitsch plan to ‘light the fire’ by recording a selection of their freshest material for a online release, to be made available late 09. Followed by their 4th full length release scheduled early 2010.

The Kitsch lads can be found late at night hunched over computers with guitars in hand, churning out sugary gems, exploiting the worth of the sing along chorus, with the same old ethos as ever, producing  pure melodic rock for the masses.

Their last effort ‘The Burning Ground’ spawned the ground breaking singles ‘Broken Themes’, ‘Memory of Me’, ‘Poison Ribbons, Poison Skies’ & ‘Stay Right Here’ and tore up music television and rock radio.

With a similar approach to the new project, working title ‘PLASTIC LIVES’ Kitsch will deliver the next stage in its evolution.

Below is a quick chat with Kitsch vocalist / guitarist Sam:

Q. What can we expect to see from Kitsch over the next year?

For the last 18 months we have taken a break from live performance, spent alot of time building an arsenal of tracks, which we dissect in the practice room. The goal being to come out with a new animal. A new album. Hopefully gain a thousand new listeners. We plan to record 3 or 4 of the new tracks late 09, and release them free online as a lead into the next era & new album (planned early-mid 2010).

Q. What is the best gig you have ever performed at, and why?

NOFX & Bad Religion at the Auckland Town Hall, Oct 4 2009, I do realise that’s in the future but it will be an experience. We have always wanted to play the Town Hall, so it seems even after a million years together we are still breaking new ground, achieving goals, etc etc.

Q. What are your favourite NZ venues?

1 The Powerstation.

2 Valve in Wellington AKA Hole in the Wall

3 St. James Theatre (RIP)

Q. What NZ musicians or bands would you like to see more of, and why?

Kitsch, because it’s been too long between drinks.

Q. What is your most embarrassing on tour/gig moment?

The moment I realised I would actually have to remove the G-string I made from gaffer tape.

Q. How do you describe your music?

PUNK ROCK PLUS!
I don’t really know actually.
POP ROCK maybe!

Q. What advice would you like to give to other aspiring musicians?

Attain the best gear you can possibly afford.
Keep your strings fresh.
F**k trends and do what you want.
Play until you’re a dinosaur.
Don’t eat meat!

Kitsch is Sam Icke (vocals, guitar), Ben Crawford (guitar, vocals), Daryl Carruthers (bass, vocals) and Dan O'Neill (drums).

New Releases

These Four Walls Release Highly Anticipated Debut Album

The wait is over for fans of Auckland’s These Four Walls, as the band release their debut album 'Down Falls An Empire' on Monday 14 September. The musical chemistry and song writing talents of guitarist Gray Vickers and vocalist Steve Gibb are undeniable, and have come together to create a bold, artistic statement from the band.

'Down Falls An Empire' is musically diverse in its rock sensibilities, yet thematically consistent, taking the listener on a journey and presenting itself as a single piece of art as opposed to just a collection of songs. Ambitious for a debut album, the songs range in style from powerful guitar-driven anthems to melodic and beautiful passages, but thoughout the band retain their individuality and identity.

These Four Walls began pre-production for 'Down Falls An Empire' in January with Chris Van De Geer (Stellar*, Solstate, Revolver) and commenced recording in May of this year with both Chris and producer/engineer Andrew Buckton (The D4, Steriogram, Midnight Youth).

Dylan Storey Album Release

What is the relevance of a concept album in today’s climate of multi-media and rapid information exchanges one might ask? In the age of instantly accessible downloadable singles, can an album stand in and of itself as a piece of art? It’s possible that Dylan Storey’s new album ‘Out of the Soup’ might shed some light on this question, as its broad yet distinctly themed collection of songs takes you on a journey through the history of human thought and the fate of mankind, as seen through the eyes of a New Zealand armchair philosopher.

The Observer Rides Again

Two years after the seminal Heard was released, Tom Bailey AKA International Observer returns with eleven more slices of delectable dub drenched delights, designed to bother bassbins worldwide on October the 5th via the Dubmissions label and Rhythmethod distribution.

Aside from his opening take on the classic, House of the Rising Sun, Felt is an altogether deeper excursion into bass than its predecessors: beats are sparser and the basslines heavier. Lampedusa is inspired by the refugees held in camps on the Italian island of the same name, physically only breaths away from freedom, but practically miles apart.
