Thanks to Simon for providing this information:
We are currently recording three new tracks which are almost complete. We’re really happy with the way they’re sounding, because we’ve managed to capture a great live feel with the rhythm tracks. The rhythm guitar, bass and drums were recorded simultaneously, allowing the natural flow, interaction and energy expected at any 8forty8 show. There are a few overdubs to complete, then onto the mixing and mastering phase. When complete, the new tracks will be available for digital download.
We will be looking to do some shows around the country in support of the releases, starting with a show at Raglan’s Yot Club on Friday, December 14th. We’ve written a few new songs recently too, which we will continue developing and working on over the next little while. You can stay informed with what the band’s up to, by “Liking” our Facebook page. On there, you will be able to access links to available 8forty8 downloads, merchandise and upcoming gigs etc.
8-Forty-8 are Simon Koretz (guitar, bass, vocals), Marcel Koretz (vocals, harmonica), Nathan Koretz (drums, saxophone, vocals) and Sam Koretz (guitar, bass, hammond organ).

Thanks to Nick for answering these questions:
What is your favourite NZ venue?
So far our favourite's have been Saints and Sinners in Invercargill, Wunderbar in Christchurch and The Celtic Inn in Palmerston North.
How did you come up with the name Free Beer and Cash?
We were sitting around when the band was created and saw Johnny Cash poster and thought Cash would be a sweet name.
We also were drinking free beer. Put two and two together..
Who would you most like to support live?
The Thomas Oliver Band, Foo Fighters, Pearl Jam, Muse, Dethklok and Miley Cyrus cause she's bangin'.
How would you describe Free Beer and Cash’s music?
It's rock with blues elements coming through. We have had comments like "Queens of The Stone Age with a chick vocalist".
There's also breakdowns for the metal heads.
What inspired you to start Free Beer and Cash?
Well we all lived together which made everything a lot easier and with Stu Laura and Nick moving to Wellington we started things off with a bang.
What is the best gig you have ever performed at, and why?
Liquid Bar Nelson has to be a major one for us. We had just come off a gig where we were not suited for the venue and basically had played to about 5 people the night before. Liquid had the best vibe of any bar I have ever played at myself.
It was packed,we played basically our whole set twice because of the encores, and we just had a great night. That's where we are playing for NYE this year.
What rumour would you like to start about Free Beer and Cash?
A certain Cannes Film Festival nominee is going to be directing our video for when we release our EP.
Free Beer and Cash are Laura Signal (vocals), Rob Taylor (guitar), Stuie Slaughter (bass), Nick Potts (drums)
and on occasion Chris Buckland (saxophone).

Watercolours has been named as the 2012 winner of the Critics’ Choice Prize, part of the 2012 Vodafone New Zealand Music Awards.
Finalists Loui the ZU, Watercolours and Beach Pigs each performed a live set at the King’s Arms in Auckland last night (Wed. Oct. 17) in front of a packed crowd and a panel of 13 music critics. The critics were tasked with selecting just one recipient; someone they believe has the potential to win a Tui in the future.
Following an impressive set, Watercolours - the stage name of Auckland’s Chelsea Jade Metcalf -took home the prize. Watercolours says: “I am completely blindsided by this win as all of the performers brought their A game tonight. It is encouraging to see the support there is for my music.”
The Critics’ Choice Prize, now in its third year, is designed to recognise and promote up-and-coming Kiwi music talent and potential future music awards winners. In 2011 the line-up included Kimbra, while in 2010 it included Home Brew – both are now finalists for this year’s Vodafone New Zealand Music Awards on November 1. The 2010 line-up included The Naked and Famous who have gone on to achieve great local and international success.
The 2013 event will run earlier in the year than usual, with heats starting the first week of April.
Battle of the Bands National Championship is New Zealand's largest and longest running R18 Band competition; events take place nationwide, allowing bands throughout the country to take part.
The 2013 event will be the 19th year of the NZ Battle of the Bands.
3 months of eliminations will be held at multiple live music venues throughout New Zealand. Each venue hosts a series of heats, semi-finals and regional finals. Throughout the event, judging and voting determines each region's champion; who then represent their region at the National Final in Auckland.

Starting with a legendary warehouse party in Auckland in 2007 featuring The Benka Boradovsky Bordello Band and DJ Balkanetic, Gypsy Fever has grown into a national phenomenon with many packed out events in Auckland and Wellington, four national tours and appearances at several major festivals including Splore, Parihaka , The Festival of Lights and Prana.
The shows have been wildly embraced by audiences all over the country with the infectious and uplifting East European melodies and rhythms appealing to all demographics and tastes. For this is intoxicating, joyous, sometimes intense social music that grabs a hold of you and has you twirling madly around with the nearest friend or stranger or attempting to dance like a Cossack. In the words of The Jews Brothers, "If you can't dance to this, you gotta problem!".
Gypsy Fever is the first ever compilation of its type celebrating East European music from New Zealand and Australia and the album features 12 different bands including well-loved acts such as Niko Ne Zna, The Jews Brothers, Monsieur Camembert, The Barons of Tang and The Mamaku Project plus relative newcomers on the scene such as Bella Cajon, The Margaret St Project and Black Spider Stomp. Most of the tracks will be newly recorded or recently released plus there'll be a couple of old classics. Lovingly selected by DJ Balkanetic, this could be the soundtrack to your very own Gypsy Fever party at home.
