Che Fu - Album Review: Navigator

30 Nov -0001 // A review by Shade
Hip-Hop at it's finest - as showcased to us by the man who had his humble beginnings in the Low Down Dirty Blues Band, and the four times platinum group, Supergroove.

With a New Zealand flavour, jazzed up tunes and a feel good style, this is the sort of album you can really enjoy listening to.

And Che Fu, the man who has acheived so much in New Zealand music; 'Best Music Video' & 'Best NZ Remix' at this years B-Net Awards, nominations in the Juice TV and Squeeze People Choice Awards, 'Top Male Vocalist', 'R&B & Hip-Hop', 'People's Choice Award', 'Single Of The Year' & 'Album Of The Year' at this years NZ Music Awards, plantinum status with both albums, #1 status countless times, 'Single Of The Year', 'Songwriter Of The Year' & 'Male Vocalist' at the 1997 NZ Music Awards .. the list goes on .. and this album is his finest.

Che Fu's voice is immaculate, the music is melodic and soulful, the lyrics are meaningful and the combination of all three make you want to move your body to the rhythm.

If you haven't brought this album yet, you've missed out on something good way too long. Buy it now, you won't regret it.

About Che Fu

Che Fu is one of New Zealand's most successful male vocalists, who began his music career at high school with a group of friends. They formed the Low Down Dirty Blues Band, but would go on to change their name to the legendary Supergroove. Their debut album Traction sold triple platinum and went on to win countless awards.

Che parted ways with Supergroove in 1996. One week after Che left Supergroove he went on to #1 success with DLT and the single Chains.

In 1997 Che released his debut solo album 2b S.Pacific on BMG which was soon certified platinum. At the New Zealand Music Awards that year Che received awards for Single of the Year, Songwriter of the Year, and the prestigious Male Vocalist of the Year.

Maggie Cocco's Science for Sociopaths - Gig Review: Maggie Cocco @ Lopdell Theatre, Tititrangi - 22/11/2023
27 Nov 2023 // by Shade
Whatever came out of the pandemic, it stranded some amazing talent here long enough for them to enrich our musical world. Down into the Lopdell labyrinth, a buzz of age-spanning expectancy waited for two of these: Maggie Cocco and her accompanist for the tour Bonnie Schwarz who would add much more than just ‘sad cello’ to tonight’s epic cycle of piano songs.

Eve Kelly @ Jam Factory, Tauranga - 03/03/2023
08 Mar 2023 // by Shade
The ‘Sold Out’ sign is a good sign and it went up several days before Eve Kelly’s first show at The Jam Factory in Tauranga’s Historic Village. Whakatane-based Eve Kelly is a star on-the-rise and she put on a show that left her audience, old and new, elated and begging for more.

Coridian - Single Review: Seed II
21 Oct 2020 // by Shade
There's an implicit line in Rock music between the head-banging craze that makes you want to raid the mosh pit, and the refined preciseness of a subtle yet powerful tune. Very few bands can master both.
