Black Chrome - Black Chrome @ The Globe 20 April 2006

24 Apr 2006 // A review by Shade
Black Chrome played as a support act for The Bleeders at their Palmerston North gig @ The Globe on Thursday the 20th of April 2006.

After seeing Black Chrome play live in the Square as a support act for Shihad, I knew that they were the best local act to open for The Bleeders. Within seconds of starting, the crowd left their seats to be as close to the stage as they could get and had started singing along to the songs that they all knew so well. From the word go, Black Chrome proved that they were worthy of this slot and no other band could have worked up the crowd like they did.

With loyal hardcore fans who come to every BC gig moshing it up, it wasn't hard to get involved in the music and I soon caught myself singing along. You cannot mistake the hard-hitting, power-driven lyrics and hot-blooded music that is Black Chrome.

The PA system at The Globe gave Black Chrome's music the justice it deserved. Their sound was well-rehearsed and it showed.

Next time these guys play in a town near you, make sure you go along and see them. Seeing Black Chrome play live is something that everyone should experience at least once, although once you have heard them play live you will want to hear them again and again.

Best Black Chrome song of the night: My Band.

Maggie Cocco's Science for Sociopaths - Gig Review: Maggie Cocco @ Lopdell Theatre, Tititrangi - 22/11/2023
27 Nov 2023 // by Shade
Whatever came out of the pandemic, it stranded some amazing talent here long enough for them to enrich our musical world. Down into the Lopdell labyrinth, a buzz of age-spanning expectancy waited for two of these: Maggie Cocco and her accompanist for the tour Bonnie Schwarz who would add much more than just ‘sad cello’ to tonight’s epic cycle of piano songs.

Eve Kelly @ Jam Factory, Tauranga - 03/03/2023

The ‘Sold Out’ sign is a good sign and it went up several days before Eve Kelly’s first show at The Jam Factory in Tauranga’s Historic Village. Whakatane-based Eve Kelly is a star on-the-rise and she put on a show that left her audience, old and new, elated and begging for more.

Coridian - Single Review: Seed II
21 Oct 2020 // by Shade
There's an implicit line in Rock music between the head-banging craze that makes you want to raid the mosh pit, and the refined preciseness of a subtle yet powerful tune. Very few bands can master both.
