Shylock/The Shysters - Rip It Up September 1997 ep review

26 Jul 2008 // A review by yimmy
Shylock deliver frenzied metal riffs, solid but groove free drum patterns and dramatic (occasionally bordering on hysterical) chest pounding vocals, flavoured with shades of early Soundgarden,Korn and Helmet.

About Shylock/The Shysters

Shylock was formed as a five-piece band in 1995 hailing from the city of Whangarei. The first line-up was a 5 piece band and vocals. They released an EP in 1997 titled Pound and performed both their own shows and also support gigs for Shihad and Head Like A Hole. Shylock version 1 performed for the last time at the Buzz 98 festival on New Years Eve.

Fast forward to late 2007 and Shylock version 2 is born. With 3 original members Tony, Mike, and Yimmy the line up included 2 new members Matt and Brent.

July 2008 has seen the new single released onto the internet and is available right here on this site. After a 10 year hiatus, 2019 dawned and the 2 remaining members, Mike and Yimmy recruit 3 new members, changed the name to The Shysters and begin writing new material. A new single will be available shortly in 2019 and a tour to promote the new line-up will begin in August and continue on into 2020.
