Minuit - Minuit - Find Me Before I Die A Lonely Death.Com album review

If you haven’t heard of them by now, I’d like to ask you politely where the hell you’ve been for the past ten years? Kiwi electronic pop band, Minuit have released an outstanding five EP’s along with three albums in this time, and have been touring the world with their energetic dance tunes. They’ve been everywhere from Vietnam to the Czech Republic, and now they’re back home with the release of their third, and most impressive album to date, Find Me Before I Die A Lonely Death.Com.
One look at the album art created by vocalist, Ruth Carr and you’ll begin to understand just how much effort has been put into making such a flawless album. Taking inspiration from their travels, it features a map of the world delightfully crafted out of hundreds and thousands. Carr explains thoughtfully, “I liked the idea that if you took out one of the seven colours that are in hundreds and thousands, it changed everything. Like you take something away from the world, it changes everything.”
It’s this way of thinking that makes the band stand out from the rest and their latest release proves it. It’s genius to say the least and from the first track you’ll be transported to a dance club out of New Zealand - speakers to the ceiling pumping heavy bass into the crowd. It’s danceable and ridiculously catchy with an articulate dusting of punch. I can imagine the act would have absolutely no trouble getting the crowds going with this kind of electric energy through their music, which is continued throughout the album.
There’s something almost devilish about Run Run and Queen Of The Flies, making them absolutely delectable as the music twists and turns exploring a darker side to Carr’s vocals. Both tracks are definitely up there with 25 Bucks and Yeah Yeah as far as favourites go for me.
Although the band likes to bring their music to the world, they admit that there’s nothing quite like the feeling that they get from seeing the one kiwi in the crowd overseas and so comes the track titled Aotearoa.
The group state that they were initially hesitant at the thought of writing a song about New Zealand - feeling like it could come across cheesy, but after a lot of thought of other bands having done the same about their homelands, they went with it. It’s a slower, stauncher track that’s quickly gaining recognition and interest throughout the country as the group search for photos of it’s residents to feature in the up coming video for the song. It’s a unique idea that shows just how creative they are not only musically, but artistically also.
Something that I really admire about Minuit is the way they put so much thought into their work. They don’t just pump it out for the sake of it, and Find Me Before I Die A Lonely Death.Com truly expresses that. This album has been lovingly crafted for those who respect all things pretty, upbeat and electronic with a high dance factor. If you’ve loved what they have produced in the past then this release will not disappoint. Definitely one for any CD collection of NZ music lovers around the world.

About Minuit
Having toured their synths and samplers from Hanoi to Helsinki on the live circuit for over a decade, this trio have crafted their own energetic sound – and it's refreshingly different.
Out front, the enigmatic Ruth Carr mixes sinister with salvation in a jubilant cascade of lyrics, while bandmates Ryan Beehre and Paul Dodge forge their rib-rattling, hip-shaking beats around her.
