Outsiders - The Words Will Write Themselves Album Review
'The Words Will Write Themselves' certainly starts with a bang! The first track 'The Other Half' has hit written all over it. In fact there are no dud songs on this ten-track CD. Excelling more in the punk realm than pop, The Outsiders have a tight professional sound captured expertly by Andrew Buckton's recording and mastering. Warm guitars with some old school effects and well thought out solos give the songs depth while driving drums typify all that is good in the punk rock genre. Top notch!
Just when I was thinking it's sounding a bit rock by numbers, out pops a clever guitar break or some alternate timing to make me go wow! These guys know their stuff. This would be a CD for old school punk lovers with just enough edge to keep it relevant for any new converts. Songs such as 'This House Ain't a Home' and 'Waiting in Line' push the CD along at a nice pace while songs like 'Voice of Reason' and 'Thanks for the Memories' slow things down slightly giving the album scope. For a band that has only been together for just under two years The Outsiders have a well-developed sound beyond their years. On the merits of this CD it would be well worth seeing The Outsiders live before they fly the coop, so lace up your docs and catch them at any good venue nearby.
Vocals with hints of influence from English and American punk fit perfectly into the well-crafted songs. There's obviously been a lot of effort put into the lyrical content making the CD title a bit tongue in cheek. Just the right intonation and phrasing from the vocal delivery is excellent! With Daniel (ex Not Quite Right), Niam (ex Ritalin) and Stu (ex Sommerset/Ritalin/The Offbeats/The Blistering Tongues) all sharing writing and vocal duties, there's a wealth of skills to draw upon which have coalesced nicely into a debut album. 'The Words Will Write Themselves' is a sterling example that exemplifies good honest punk rock music.

About Outsiders
The album was recorded in studios across Wellington and mixed and mastered by powerhouse producer/engineer Andrew Buckton (Sommerset/The D4/Midnight Youth). The Words Will Write Themselves tells the story of losing everything and finding it again; recapturing youth while looking for redemption. The Outsiders have a wealth of experience to draw on, from playing sold out shows in places such as Amsterdam, Berlin, London and Melbourne, to getting lost in the countryside in Belgium, and eating banquets in squats in Germany.
The Outsiders play Punk/Alternative Rock with pop hooks similar to bands such as Husker Du, The Replacements and The Ramones. Three vocalists and an anything-goes live act sets this band apart from many current acts and harks back to the heyday of the early 90's when music and passion took precedent over fashion.
