Aly Cook - Brand New Day album review

06 Jun 2011 // A review by JohnS

Being one of New Zealand’s biggest secrets hasn’t stopped Aly Cook from doing big things. Described as a woman with a petite frame and a big voice her Debut album shows this to be fact rather than fiction. Entitled Brand New Day, showcases why she has been nominated for APRA New Zealand Country Song of the Year and as a nominee for 2010 Female Country Artist of the Year

Boasting fellow musicians such as Sharon O’Neill (Brand New Day), Sina from OMC and many others, Aly has crafted a piece of country gold.

Performing throughout the USA, UK, Europe as well as Aotearoa.

Strongest song for me on the album was co written with David Erik ASCAP via the Internet and recorded in Nashville, entitled Country Storm. The video was filmed in Nashville, Hollywood and Christchurch and has been showing on playlists on SkyTV Channel 63 as well as the CMC Country Music Channel in Australia. Listen out for the track on the airwaves near you.

You might also recognise her work from NZ TV Sitcoms like Love Bites and in Shortland Street.

Not being a complete country fan I have caught myself going back to this album on a Sunday afternoon to benefit from the easy listening feel. This is a strong album letting me know how much talent there is within New Zealand.

About Aly Cook

Aly Cook is a singer-songwriter from New Zealand. Her articulate voice melds through well crafted songs. You can feel the pacific influence in this collection of New Zealand Adult Contemporary Music, with a Folk Rock cross-over feel.

This is a change in direction for Aly whos talents with Dance/Pop Duo saw Debut Video single Be There playlisted onto MTVDance Europe in 2000. Aly has previously worked with group DNE. The new Aly Cook has found the art within the artist. A new and unique sound with the image of a strong modern woman.

A songstress of the baby boomers. At artist launch is a collection of her own compositions and in collaboration with others. Some are professionally produced and some are demos.

Nervous Doll Dancing - Eidolon - Album Review
09 Sep 2012 // by JohnS
Nervous Doll Dancing is a new name to me, which came as a surprise. I consider myself to have an above average knowledge of kiwi musicians and I’m always a little taken back when I haven’t heard of someone who is this talented before.
