Eva Prowse - H & Eva Crazy Eyes EP Review

10 Jan 2014 // A review by Peter-James Dries

Ever wondered what happens when you slap together two Kiwi’s sojourning the British motherland? Henry Marks and Eva Prowse, the dynamic duo behind H & Eva, can show you. Like a sonic piñata a sugar-coated candy cocktail of Alternative Pop in a Crazy Eyes EP wrapper falls out.

Mix equal parts of Kiwi Pop from the 90s and the Electronica they blast at Wild Pair in a glass of Neo-Folk. Smash it back any time for a short and sweet pick me up.  Repeat as required.

Stand out track for me was Nothing’s Quite Right. Differing from the preceding tracks, it’s kinda what it would sound like if you stole a Cowboy’s guitar and left him with a synthesizer. It’s the track that showcases how well these two work together vocally as a duet.

H & Eva’s Crazy Eyes EP is available for Stream and Download from their Soundcloud (http://soundcloud.com/handeva).

Ra Charmian - Album Review: Waiata Wairua
08 Oct 2024 // by Peter-James Dries
Waiata Wairua is an album that wouldn’t feel out of place performed in a late night jazz hall in some alternate history where the successes of the Maori battalion lead to a proliferation of Te Reo worldwide. The sort of interest that saw your dad singing in French in the 60's, when Mireille Mathieu was knocking about.

Yurt Party - Album Review: Yurt Party
07 Sep 2023 // by Peter-James Dries
It sure isn't summer, and this is really not the Balkans, but Yurt Party’s new self-titled album refutes that. Back with another one of them Balkan rocking beats, Yurt Party’s debut is jazzy, erratic, and full of zest and energetic grooves, with flavour notes of ska, dub, and bergamot.
