Heathen Eyes are a band I've been keeping an eye on of late, and I suggest you do to. This band is making the music every 90's rocker has been waiting for since Darude's Sandstorm started the drawn-out decline of popular music as we knew it. 

I was hooked from the swelling opening notes of the newest single You're Gonna Need A God. They draw you into the track like an ocean pulling back into a wave that's destined to break. 

Masters of progression in rock, Heathen Eyes know how to mix the heavy with the light and know the perfect time to switch between the two. Starting restrained, the heavy breaks through and grabs you, not letting you go until to the end.

There is a great use of synth in this track and the female backing vocals add an extra dimension not present in The Blood of Cain. 

The band's previous single, The Blood of Cain, illustrated Alice in Chains as an influence, with a very Layne Staley sound. The influences I can identify in You're Gonna Need A God include post-Chi Cheng Deftones and early 2000's Incubus. If you're a fan of any of the above, you're pretty much guaranteed to enjoy the new Heathen Eyes track.

I look forward to hearing more singles from the band as they work closer to a new release, and personally, I'd like to someday hear the self-titled EP from the band's earlier incarnation, demo quality or not. Seeing and hearing a local band's progression let's you appreciate just how far they've come.   

And anyone that's seen Heathen Eyes playing live recently will agree, this band's sound is tight and they really do deserve to be a lot more famous than they are.
