The music of Seventy One Sunset has been described by the Rock FM as “great hooks and solid riffs”. An apt description of what can also be described as a throwback to seventies Hard Rock with a modern twist.
The Mule EP’s four tracks are a good taster for those that haven’t seen Seventy One Sunset’s live performances.
The EP hits hard and heavy from the outset with opener On Female. Mule shows off the band’s dynamic ability to mix the hard with the mellow. Empty is more melodic and introspective with a nineties alternative rock feel. October, like the month, is a bit of a slow burner. It’s the track with the hook that stuck the most.
Hard and fast, an EP just isn’t enough. I can’t wait to see more released from these guys.
The Mule EP is available in stores now or for download, stream and order on the Seventy One Sunset Bandcamp (http://71sunset.bandcamp.com/releases). Also, look out for the video for Mule, which is doing the rounds on C4 and JuiceTV.
71 Sunset are an alternative-rock band based in Auckland, who have drawn on a vast range of influences to create their own unique sound.
Signed to AAA Records late in 2013, the self-produced Mule EP (recorded with Andrew Buckton at studio 203) was released on the label early in 2014. The EP's title track and video received strong radio and TV play, as well as receiving critical recognition both inside and outside New Zealand.
