Jayson Norris - Save My Soul EP Review

16 May 2014 // A review by Dilemma

New from Jayson Norris is the Save My Soul EP as part of NZ Music Month. If you are a fan of Kora style rock or Tiki Taane melodies then you will love this five-song EP, cleverly incorporating roots and the groove of mainstream guitar rock’n’soul to blur genres. This is Norris's third release, previously releasing a couple of albums which when compared to earlier releases you could say that Save My Soul is pleasantly mature with that same sweet Tiki Taane soul, who is in fact happens to be the producer on the EP.

The tracks are very well put together, Closer To You is a ballad that mixes up the groovy roots sound by adding in some cello. Throughout the EP you can't fault the lyrics or vocals, each track showcasing his natural singing talent. 27 introduces some heavy set acoustic and electric guitars. Waterfall is more of a dub track with the electronic synths and a bit of harmonica thrown in for good musical measure. While All I Need has a definite summery vibe that you could image listening to out in a beer garden. Adding in the title track all in all this is another great EP to add to your New Zealand Music Month collection.

Released as a free download via Bandcamp the debut EP from Wellington singer/songwriter/beatmaker/producer Estere is definitely unique in the NZ music scene.
