Jordan Luck and his band have produced an album that is full of energetic and uncompromising rock, fortified with a majestic retro pop rock sound. The feel good up-tempo vibe stands alongside anything you would expect from The Exponents in their heyday. Such is the sound of Jordan’s familiar voice, and surprisingly he is even more melodic and expressive than ever, with a tinge of an extra raspy tone in Jordan’s voice that just adds more texture and expression to his singing and it sets off the “real feel” of this album perfectly.
Each song just booms into your brain and makes you want to move and sing and you just feel good. It’s great to hear that nothing has diminished the creativity and genius of NZ’s own Jordan Luck, no doubt his band have contributed greatly and together they have fashioned a treat of Kiwi rock that is gratifying and nourishing.
Kicking off with the sprightly Can I Help You? full of Jordan’s velvet tones and an effervescent beat. Edens of Suburbia tunefully asks the question about the positives and negatives of the suburban world we live in, introspective while being another catchy gem.
Only If You’re Lonely is a stand out that is bursting with energy and a wonderfully satisfying melody that sounds so familiar yet so new and vibrant! In fact all eleven tracks are instant catchy favourites that hook you in, the guitars from Bryan Bell and Joe Walsh are a beautifully layered tangle of sound that is rhythmic and assuring. The cool guitar licks on Robbyn Banks are very rad as is the fat bass from Rich Mixture and rock solid beat on drums from Beaver.
Jordan’s tones on the melodic Wednesday On The Moon sound magnificent wrapped around the frolicking guitar strums and Beavers military drum beats. Stevie is a dreamy song that gently sails with sweet guitar and keys, and then were hit with AC/DC power chords and crisp vocals in the euphoricUnder The Mercury Moon a potent rise in attack and a gratifying finale.
Just like the colourful Dick Frizzell album cover artwork this album is pure Kiwi art which will enrich your ears, mind and soul.
‘Legend’ is a word suffering from chronic overuse syndrome these days, but when it comes to Jordan Luck, the word regains it’s full meaning and one the NZ public associates with this true blue Kiwi artist. This affection is obviously felt amongst his musical peers as well who bestowed Jordan the honour of Inaugural Inductee into the New Zealand Rock n Roll Hall Of Fame. As front man and pop-writing genius with the legendary Exponents, he clocked up a staggering 18 Top 40 singles over the years, with Victoria recently voted by public as the 8th greatest New Zealand song of all time. These days on any given weekend you will hear packed stadiums of sports fans singing in unison (if not in-tune) Why Does Love Do This To Me? a song that seems to have taken on the mantle as the ‘unofficial’ alternative NZ national anthem.
THE JORDAN LUCK BAND is the new super deluxe Frankenstein incarnation backing the iconic kiwi singer these days. Every gig the band play the best of all those iconic tracks we know and love as well as a collection of recently penned and possible future stadium sing-a-longs of tomorrow. Meticulously designed by Jordan himself from the ground up this band has just the one purpose...to bring Jordan’s blend of pop rock genius from the past, present and future… back to the masses!
Hand-picked from a wish-list of players Jordan wanted to work with the word went out, his fantasy starting line up were contacted and unsurprisingly they all signed up, there was no need to refer to the list of reserves…so, starting from the stage right part of the paddock…
