The Hopkinsville Goblins are a Wellington artist/band representing a mish mash of genres under the guise of Alternative Rock, but in many ways, vary far from that.
It’s a little difficult to pinpoint whether the Hopkinsville Goblins are merely a gimmick, or actually serious with this album, Posts From Planet Earth.
Spanning sixteen songs not hugely long in length, most are erratic, mingled with a few gem riffs but unfortunately flat vocals and poor production quality let this album down.
Being unique and quirky is refreshing to see in any music, but there is also big difference between doing it well or not at all. I applaud their creativity, but the overall music and imagery is just too difficult to understand and quite frankly, I can’t take it seriously, if that is their intention.
I would still be interested in seeing if The Hopkinsville Goblins have other music offerings on the horizon that perhaps offer something a little more substantial.
My honest advice is give this a listen for yourselves, you may love it or be on the fence. The Hopkinsville Goblins made their first appearance in rural Kentucky in 1955 and have popped up all over the world ever since. They love people and like to play, but too much contact drains their powers. A close encounter with backwoods songwriter Alvis Impulsive led to the formation of a creative bond that helps them express themselves through the universal language of music. These little guys are interstellar nomads that want to pass their wisdom on to help the human race avoid a bland extinction. And dance while it does it.
