Checaine - EP Review: Symbols
Hamilton rock quartet Checaine are back and they're making some noise about it.
Their latest slab, Symbols is a follow up EP to their 2014 debut, Turn the Stone and my ears were not disappointed.
Since their formation in 2011, Checaine have proved themselves to be strong contenders in the NZ Rock scene and it’s very easy to see why.
I feel they’ve grown ten-fold in the space between their debut and this EP. They sound tighter, more dominant and they've become a force to be reckoned with.
With their 'punch in your face' drumming, solid, hard and absolute killer riffs, and melody and vocals that are loud, sharp and in your face, these boys don’t mess around.
If Bring Me Down (the first single released from the EP) and Set Us Free doesn’t make you want to turn up the volume full tilt, headbang and possibly break stuff, then I’m afraid this EP is not for you.
When a band realises their potential and gives everything they have got, you end up with a band like Checaine who have the power to captivate and make you reach for that repeat button just one more time. This is not just an EP you want, it’s a necessity.
About Checaine
Formed in 2011 by Fraser Coombes (vocals) and Regan Aspden (guitar), they are now accompanied by an exciting line-up of talented members that add to the sound and live show performance Checaine have become known for.
The band have enjoyed great exposure through their new dynamic single Bring Me Down as heard on New Zealand's The Rock FM.
