Mishap are back with
their second EP, Not Feeling This, and straightaway, I have to say, I really
dig this band.
It’s my first
introduction to these punk power pop trio from Wellington, and they have been
kicking around since early last year (2016). They’ve amassed quite a following in
that short time and their refreshing blend of old skool punk (think Green Day,
Blink 182) with early 2000’s punk pop (Sum 41, New Found Glory) and you have
the modern twist that is Mishap.
Infectious describes these
guys in a nutshell. The four songs that make up Not Feeling This are insanely
fun, vocally playful and incredibly well-crafted and tight. Come Over has to
be one of the catchiest riffs that transports me back to my fifteen-year-old
self in the early 2000’s. What a trip!
I love the energy and the
way Mishap craft such simple and brilliant tunes that are perfect for Pogo
dancing. This EP instantly makes me happy and I place my bets you’ll feel the
same. The downfall to EP’s? It leaves you always wanting more.
I hope an album is somewhere
in the future for these guys.
Mishap are a pop-punk trio from Wellington, formed in March 2016. They have a style that is somewhere between the simple, raw sound of 90s Green Day and Blink-182 and the tight, modern sound of bands such as The Story So Far, Neck Deep and State Champs.
In 2016, Mishap released their debut EP, Toaster with most popular tracks being Hey Allie and The Scrumpy Song. On these songs, Mishap have made a name for themselves among the New Zealand rock community, touring exhaustively around the North Island.
For Mishap, 2017 held the release of their second EP, Not Feeling This, two fully funded music videos and touring with pop punk pals Fire For Glory, Braves, Lookin Up, Barracks and heaps of other rad bands! Their first (professional) music video was released on the 16th of March for their single/title track of Not Feeling This.
