Auckland band Violet
Highway have a new EP, and it’s a punch to the face, in a good way.
The 5 track EP, Breathe, is an assault to the
senses, making no apologies for its extreme catchiness and superb musicianship.
Violet Highway have always been a favourite and dependable kind of band, that
only improve over time, watching their progression is half the excitement.
Vocalist/guitarist,
Jacqui, Bassist, Ant and newcomer, Drummer, Nikki are a tight unit and if
you’ve never seen them live, guaranteed, you’ll be a fan after even one song.
Hypnotically impressive. Vocally on point, Breathe is a punk rock nugget full
melody and total kick ass.
Go has the meatiest
bass line and instantly draws you in, I’m a sucker for a good bass intro and
this more than hits the spot. I also love the use of a horn section, that adds
a lot of dimension to Friday Night and Charlotte hits with pure punchy punk
tones. A tight band that only go from strength to strength. Go forth and check
them out for yourselves, satisfaction guaranteed.
Violet Highway is a female fronted three piece that plays a fiery blend of Rock, Pop and Blues that will leave you torn between dancing up a storm and drunk texting your ex.
They match passionate lyrics with catchy melodies and powerful instrumentation. Lead vocalist Jacqui belts out a tone described by listeners as "PJ Harvey meets Joan Jett" alongside her own gritty guitar work. The band’s rhythm section is defined by attention grabbing bass riffs from Joel and playful, energetic drumming from Sam.
