Hailing from Wellington, Ammp is a four-piece, pop-rock, indie outfit full of melody, warmth and eagerly
awaiting your listening ears.
If you’re familiar
with the band’s debut album, From The Back Of The Sun, you’ll recognise the
same clear, harmonious vocals from Andrew Masseurs and the effortless
musicianship from the rest of the band, Matthew Powell (guitars) Jason Murphy (bass)
and Andrew Richardson (drums).
This Chaotic SymphonyEP is the band’s newest collection of songs that was intended for their second
album, but due to circumstances beyond their control, they now have found their
home as an EP, and I hope the band will agree, an EP is better suited to these
collection of songs as it creates more audio intimacy.
The opening track, Rabid Creature has an interesting title, it also reminds me a lot of early INXS, which could just be my ears, but I really dig it and the vibe it gives. The rest of the EP is very soft, and has some thought provoking truths to some of the songs, like Two Arms, Two Legs (a song about Racism) and the closing track, Glad To Be Alive, a poignant track inspired from a personal experience of guitarist, Matthew Powell.
There is a gentle powerfulness to all the tracks, and each stands out on their own for their lyrical ability. There is a lot more of that softer, slower indie vibe than their debut, so, if you’re looking for fast and widely chaotic, this won’t be to your liking, but then again, I believe everything is worth a listen, you might just find yourself hitting play one more time.
