HeadRoller - Album Review: Headroller

"Stay with us now as we cross live to some poor bastard we sent straight to the depths of hell to bring you the exclusive footage you need, Jeff tell me, how much blood is there?"
Now, I might have heard that quote wrong (even after multiple run-throughs of the song, Visions), but if I could fit the feeling of this whole album into a few short, simple words, it would definitely be this little skit from the beginning of the 7th track, Visions.
Headroller's self-titled project made me feel like my head was being bashed against a wall for its 33-or-so minute duration, and I loved every second of it.
Opener Two-Faced launches you quickly into the distorted underworld this album is. With its heavy down-tuned guitar hitting you hard within the first two seconds of the first track, you know what you've signed up for instantly.
Songs like Johnny Sinjah and Visions were songs that I just kept coming back to on this LP, the energy behind these two (along with many others on this album) really clicked with me, putting the icing on top of the cake is the insane vocal work done on this track, which reminds me alot of Randy Blythe from Lamb of God.
There is just so much power and anger I feel behind this whole project that I could definitely see far stretches of the NZ metal community getting behind. Upon first listen I felt that a moment was needed to stop my head from rolling off (I'd like to say no pun intended, but there definitely was) so I could have time to process what was going through my brain. After a few more listens, the pacing of the album made a lot more sense to me, and a calm moment would've completely snapped the mood.
If there was one thing that still would've loved to see, is having visions as the opening track to the album. With a demonic intro like that before crashing into the rest of the tune would've worked as a great opener to this record, but that could just be personal preference.
If you're looking for a night free of trick-or-treaters, make sure to get HeadRoller's self titled album on the 31st of October and turn it up loud! (as it should be).
