Album Review: Local Musicians Music Vol 4. Compilation Review

30 Mar 2018 // A review by Corinne Rutherford

This is a grassroots original music journey that has been growing from strength to strength while gaining notoriety along the way. Starting in a small music office in the back-roads of Thames in 2014, Shirley Howe (aka LA Thompson) came up with a “little idea”. That little idea has now blossomed into the fourth compilation album of the Local Musicians Music. What was originally a Coromandel focused compilation CD, is now attracting artists from as far away as Dunedin through to Auckland, Coromandel and Tauranga.

The album features 12 tracks of unique and varying styles of music. There is a wide range of genres, ranging from country to rock and surf punk to pop.

Listening to the Local Musicians compilation gives you a taste of the quality of music which is out there. The album is also a collection of remarkable songwriters and storytellers. A perfect way to showcase fresh local talent.

What an enjoyable journey into a network of musician's, which up until now I did not know existed. With over 22 artists and growing on the LMM books, this is one compilation album to keep an eye out for each year

An excellent way to enjoy New Zealand’s special blend of music.

???? (4 stars)

Mysterious and sinister themes such as horror combined with the colourful characteristics of circus life are the inspiration behind emerging dark-pop artist Michèle Ducray's debut EP Throne Of Mine. The balance of both dark and light create a fresh and original sound that is complex as it is identifiable.
