Indie duo Three Feathers have a soothing gentleness and retro vibe that would generally
get their style labelled as “stoner rock”. While there are definitely similarities
to the genre, many do look down upon the “stoner” moniker, so instead let’s
describe it differently. Their sophomore single to be released, Know It Well, has a lackadaisical,
bluesy, surf composition. Very simple instrumentation with a repeating piano
riff, snare/kick drum combo, and minimal guitar (with the exclusion of the
breakdown, which has some lovely piano and guitar trills and licks). The male
component of the vocal melody is the primary source of vocals and has a similar
style to that of Red Hot Chili Peppers Anthony Kiedis.
The slow
tempo of the track gives it a very emotive feel; with an undulating flow of the
music along with tender and comforting male-female vocal harmonies. The
accompanying video mirrors the mood of the song, displaying a combination of vintage
and edited clips that leave a sense of coziness and nostalgia. A serene and transcendent
blend of audio and visual.
