ATU's Point of View is an instrumental EP mainly focused on the guitar but written, performed, recorded and mastered in its entirety by ATU. It has an amazing cover, which in itself asks a question. It has a glass which is either half full or empty depending on your perspective. The bio I was given suggested this was a theme throughout the songs, and if you look at it from a musical angle, that is also the case.
It’s very difficult to lock this EP into a particular genre and it feels very much like a showcase for the talents and diversity of ATU. What a creator he is, and if this effort is anything to go by he has a big future ahead of him. Soaring melodies combined with schizophrenic riffing takes the range across the EP from jazz to metal. Each track is as different as the next with smooth transitions and flow which makes it accessible to anyone from fans of hard rock to pop.
When I was a teenager I remember hearing Surfing with the Alien from Joe Satriani and it completely blew my mind. The fact that there was no singing was irrelevant because the music did all the talking and that is also the case with Point of View. I was blown away and really enjoyed this EP. With five songs that capture the magic of guitar and allow it to be viewed by all, I think you will be surprised at how accessible this is and that was the element that Joe Satriani had with Surfing with the Alien. ATU has achieved the same with this release.
This is an exciting EP and if it's anything to go by, ATU has a huge future both as a multi-instrumentalist and as a Producer. It is a very skilled and inspiring release and I can't wait to see what ATU brings us next.
