Blue River Baby have a goal to get people moving by creating songs that make people move and playing them well to as many people as possible. It is a simple goal but one that they achieve well as they recently showed when they played to 20,000 people on NYE in Nelson.
With six full-time members and some additional
hands bought in for this single in the shape of MC Wizard and Kali Barton, there
is a lot thrown into this new release Walk Of Shame which is a mix of show band retro rock n soul with
a hint of funk flowing throughout.
The driving riffs from Matt Fitzpatrick are a stand out that punctuate a story
of drunken regrets told with soulful passion by singer Ivy Padilla. It’s the
kind of music that would go down equally well in a smoky blues bar as it would
at a packed out Villa Marie festival where no doubt there would be plenty of
wined up 40+ somethings doing their own walk of shame the following day
MC Wizard adds the magic ingredient on this track and his input is an unexpected and welcome twist that allows Walk Of Shame to hold its head held up higher than most of the soul/rock bands you can see on
any given weekend in bars all over NZ.
BRB is made up of seasoned musicians and it shows. The song could have easily fallen
into M.O.R. territory but they have sprinkled little bits of magic throughout that
kept me hooked.
No shame in this latest release for a group of musicians who clearly have their
eyes set on bigger things.
