Wellington’s B.A.D.S, or By A Damn Sight have released How Deep the River Runs from their forthcoming EP A.I.R. 01.
How Deep The River Runs is an excellent taster, representing the band’s sound very well. B.A.D.S describes it's sound as "post cinematic drone-pop against driving up-tempo rhythms".
Slightly distorted ghost notes of bass and guitar play a central riff with a kick drum, keeping time as it builds to the first verse. The tension is then released into the chorus, before an augmented version of the verse kicks in.
How Deep The River Runs has a classic A,B, A1, B1 structure with augmentations building to a big finish. Lyrically it comes across as being fairly one dimensional - there’s no story here, just different versions of song’s title repeated, however, it showcases their potential well.
Recorded at Blue Barn Studio with producer James Goldsmith. B.A.D.S debut EP A.I.R. 01 is scheduled for release in September 2019, and judging from this song, it will be a release worth waiting for.
