Levi Sesega's Lights On Project's new single Eyes of a Child is a refreshing antidote to toxic masculinity. It's got a fantastic message about a man with the strength to face himself and his demons so that he can be reborn and experience redemption as a result.
Levi's voice is fantastic. It's honest and substantial, delivering the lyrics with integrity and providing the beating heart of the track. Musically this single is catchy and memorable with an impetus that carries the listener along. The instrumental break is poised and well positioned.
Tidy production has ensured that this single will deliver a great punch.
It's the lyrics that resonate most, however. The insight they provide is so very timely and much-needed and it was just what I needed to hear right now. It's worth quoting the chorus just to share its wonderful wisdom:
"Let us see the world twice through the eyes of a child and once through the eyes of a man. Such a man would have to seek redemption. Such a man would have been born again. Let us see the world again through the eyes of a child and not through the eyes of a man. Such a man would have to learn forgiveness. Such a man would have to lose it all to find himself again."
Thank you Levi for this lovely, lovely track.
Michael Levin Sesega (Levi) is the musical architect and songwriter for the Lights On Project which has been playing shows in and around Auckland for the past 2 years. Levi’s powerful and emotional tones, blended with an uncommon mix of instruments provide the listener with very vivid imagery.
Accompanying Levi in his full 5-piece line up are Jason Slade on guitar/bass, Tim Shacklock on cello, Andrew Miller on saxophone and Igor Shnayderman on cajon/percussion. These 5 individually talented musicians come together to deliver songs which touch the soul and unpick the very nature of human existence.
This ensemble is truly genre-spanning in both construct and delivery and their sound encompasses folk, blues, jazz, rock and even a smattering of pop. Levi’s lyrics encourage self-awareness, self-development and humanitarian compassion. This is not just music. It's transformation through sound.
