Raglan based musical artist Parabola West is back with an enchanting new single New Moon. Given the state of the world at this time, the release of this track is perfect timing inspired by “the idea of a deep and ancient wisdom within each of us. It’s an invitation to explore that possibility and reconnect with the natural world”. This track recorded at 432Hz rather than the standard 440Hz is due to experimentation with healing frequencies in her music, Parabola West combines all these elements to create a seductively mysterious single.

West's music continues to have an ethereal sound to it. Listening to her clear vocals is almost mesmerising. Known for her Celtic and Nordic folk inspired electronica and captivating layers of sound, New Moon is a spell binding addition to her already enticing music catalogue.

This single is a cloak of beautiful warm vocals, softly flowing instrumentation and spellbinding uncomplicated storytelling. An alluring addition to the expanding collection of fantasy soundscapes. New Moon has a gentle eeriness I found strangely comforting in these unsettling times.

Parabola West is the artist name of New Zealand-based singer and songwriter Amy Tucker West. Her sound is a lush blend of folk and electronica; often piano-driven, with hints of Celtic and Norse influence - and a dash of fantasy.

To add a twist to her songs, West is a self-confessed ‘math and science nerd’, saying that she experiences music as ‘a combination of emotion, science, and math – a mixture of precise structure and imperfect elements.’ The way a parabola can be used to focus light onto a fixed point (the magnifying glass trick used to start a fire with the sun), West uses those principles to focus emotions into music, hence the name.

Think of Parabola West as mixing Loreena McKennitt with your favourite female-fronted synthpop band, and then adding a dash of Middle-earth.
