The Kendals - Single Review: Vines (Dear Will Remix)

08 May 2020 // A review by Gaby Ivanov-Giraldo

The Kendals are a three-piece pop trio from Auckland. The band have been releasing music since their debut single Passion. Following the success of their latest single release Vines, The Kendals have teamed-up with Auckland producer, Will Henderson, who sets fire to their newest track Vines (Dear Will Remix), out now on all major streaming.

The deep, captivating voice of Lucia Zara is heard straight away. The lyrics smother us in imagery; lost in a jungle, dark in colour, searching for wonder. This track’s glory drops at 15 seconds; a lusciously captivating bounce into a stunning dance hit. Layers build the song with a happy, arcade-like backdrop, while staying true to their synth-soaked sound. The crazed melody of the electric guitar runs throughout, and the synth and pop production make this song pure sugar (where you hear the team work of Michael Redwood, James Dalton, meshed with the production of Will Henderson). The Kendals make sound which is emotive, minimalist and unique. You hear hints of Florence Welch, The XX, Lorde; where indie pop meets EDM.

On top of great lyricism, addictively good vocals and great production, this track is thematic and helps you dance into an escape. Texture, harmony and sweetness combine to bring forth a moody and polished track.

Rating: ( 5 / 5 )
