For The Wolves - Single Review: The Devil You Know
This was just what I needed today. Pandemic lockdown here in the UK has me climbing the walls and wanting to quite frankly rip someone's head off. I needed an escape, a distraction and to let off some emotional steam.
Turn my speakers up loud, new single The Devil You Know from Brissy-based For The Wolves patched in and BOOM!
An instant blast of energetic, riff-laden, blues-tinged, psyche rock 'n' roll. It kicks into a straight-ahead beat as the vocals fire in almost immediately. My head starts to bang as the guitars crunch and soar.
Think He Is Legend in a mash-up with Monster Magnet and you will get some idea of what to expect. Brad's vocals sit perfectly with the music. He has real depth to his voice and enough control to know when less equals more.
The chorus sweeps in with a melody that drives the hooks in further and lifts the song but it is the constant rhythm and drive along with an overall heaviness that makes The Devil You Know stand out. This is music that isn't trying to be clever or weird or cool just content to be what it is and is all the better for it.
There really isn't much more to say. A faultless tune, hitting all the right spots with the only complaint being its radio-friendly 3 min 22-second run time means it is over all too soon.
Nevermind. Just hit repeat and turn the volume up a bit louder.
