Now is the time Lee Martin was due to take a trip to the US.Covid has scuttled those plans and, instead, she’s released the stunning single Falling Down (and 360-degree music video) from her Lost Girl EP, which came out last year.
The South African-born songwriter has already built up a passionate and loyal following since settling in Christchurch in 2010 and if ever there was a current artist in New Zealand deserving of a wider audience Martin would have to be a contender.
She exudes warmth and a wry kind of humour on this beautifully nuanced and toned bounce-along of a song. In an interview with Muzic.net.nz’s Kev Rowland she described the song as "about people these days preferring an online ‘ideal’ presence as opposed to making real physical connections". There’s a lot more to it though. There’s a couple of lines that nicely encapsulate that famous definition of insanity: "doing the same thing over and over again and expecting different results".
The video is very, very clever with Martin popping in and out of the same scene but different things and you can even choose which part of the video you want to watch at any given moment.
Lee Martin, originally from South Africa, has developed a sound that glides gracefully across multiple genres. This unique quality has made her a standout artist in the industry. Both her recorded music and live shows continue to receive rave reviews, capturing the hearts of an ever-growing fanbase and the attention of media and industry globally. Lee's evocative lyrics and soulful performances have consistently resonated with audiences, establishing her as a prominent figure in the music scene.
